Naturism and Nudism Myths:
As naturists, there are certain false assumptions we hear over and over again, and myths that are perpetuated by the media. Here we debunk 10 popular myths about naturism and naturists.
Myth #1. Naturists / nudists are nude on a regular basis.
Most of us can not be nude all the time. Even if we live in a naturist club, it is still needed to venture outside, which generally requires slacks. How frequently one can be naked depends on climate, place, what nudist spots are nearby, etc.
Are nudists like Bart Simpson? Some are, some are not.
Also, many nudists do not desire or don't have a need to be naked all the time. Some people get home and instantly undress out of constricting, uncomfortable work clothes. Others switch into pajamas or take off just their top or bottom. (Of course there are also those who can't be house nudists because of who they live with.) Many are happy to just partake in nudie time outdoors, when it is hot out.
Myth #2. Naturists and naturists are interested in being naked everywhere.
I don't know about you, but I 've no interest in being naked on a NYC subway train. Naked is fun, but not everywhere. Most naturists are happy to have their own section of a plage. But it would be fine if it were not a serious offense to be seen nude, without any lewd behaviour involved. We find it obscene and oppressive that it is illegal to merely reveal body parts that most folks have and that most folks have seen.
Naturists Want To Be Naked 24/7?
Myth #3. Naturists are "this" and naturists are "that." As in, there are establish definitions of "naturist" and "naturist" within the community.
We asked 9 leaders in the naturist community what this means to be a naturist, and we got 9 distinct responses. There are not any set definitions locally at large, though we have defined these terms ourselves here in The FKK Guide to Nudism. In this post, we use nudist and naturist interchangeably.

Myth #4. Naturists live in communities.
There are 2013 Summer Solstice Bare Hiking & Skinny Dipping Trip . Nudists do not colonize. Nobody in the naturist world says community. This can be a term the media keeps using, and it just won't die. The appropriate terms are nudist resorts or clubs.
Myth #5. Nudism is sexual and nudism is just not sexual.
Naturism is not about sex, but it can also be a little disingenuous to say it is not sexual. Given the strong association between nudity and sex in our culture, many naturists are quick to insist that naturism isn't sexual, but almost to the point of rendering themselves asexual. Most individuals are sexual beings. It's not as if we enter a nudist setting, and our sexuality disappears (nor is it suddenly an uncontrollable power).
Nudists have sex, still experience sexual interest and express affection in public, whether nude or not. The point is, naturist settings are no more sexual than public textile settings. Most folks on bare beaches behave the same manner they would on a cloth playa. They talk, they skinnydip, laugh, sunbathe naked. Individuals can control their behaviour whether nude or clothed. There's a time and place for everything.
Myth # 6. Naturist couples' sex lives must be decreased because they see each other naked all the time OR nudists have more sex because fee and alive! It was just awesome to be bare see each other naked constantly.
Sexuality is in the mind, and your sexiest body part is actuallyyour brain. There are many things that cause arousal and individuals don't need nudity to get turned on. If the first part of this myth were true, we had all be doomed to sexless marriages and relationships. But there are couples who have been married for 40 years and still have healthy sex lives.
When it comes to second part, we'd say nudists probably have better sex because they have a tendency to be more comfortable with their bodies. But do they have more sex in relation to the average person? We had need to do a study to figure out.
